OCBC Facebook filled with complains after new round of technical issues

OCBC’s digital banking services resumed after being disrupted for more than two hours due to technical issues on 7 November.

Acknowledging the problems, the bank stated that the issues began around 12 p.m., affecting Funds Transfer and PayNow services through the OCBC Digital app and Internet Banking platform.

“We experienced technical issues affecting Funds Transfer and PayNow services on the OCBC Digital app and Internet Banking platform from around 12 noon today. These services were restored at about 2.30 p.m. We apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank our customers for their patience,” OCBC responded to queries from CNA.

The disruption led to customers encountering difficulties accessing the bank’s digital banking services and using the PayNow platform.

Complaints left on OCBC’s Facebook page mentioned “intermittent technical issues,” while an error message on the app warned customers about potential challenges accessing banking and payment services.

Among the reported issues were complications in selecting recipients for PayNow transfers, with users informed that their chosen contacts were not registered with the service.

“OCBC digital banking seems to be down again? Can’t open the app and Pay Anyone now decommissioned,” stated Facebook user Joe Sin, referencing the bank’s recently discontinued standalone payments app.

Additionally, users such as Gary Liew on Facebook and Reddit user SlaySlavery reported problems with the SMS one-time passcode (OTP) and encountered difficulties in transferring money.

This disruption marks the latest in a series of digital banking interruptions and service outages experienced this year.

Connectivity issues had briefly affected NETS-related services on 3 November, while DBS and Citibank encountered an hours-long outage on 14 October, impacting online banking and payment services.

Parliament revealed that these disturbances prevented about 2.5 million payment and ATM transactions from being completed.

DBS faced several service disruptions this year, including a day-long service outage in March and subsequent digital banking and ATM disruptions in May.

OCBC also suffered a morning outage on 28 August due to a technical problem, impacting various services like internet and mobile banking platforms, PayNow, ATMs, cards, and Velocity, the bank’s digital business banking platform.
