Restaurant owners in Padang are now seeing more sales in the lead-up to National Day, and are expecting more on Singapore’s 58th birthday on 9 Aug.

The operators in the area are now ramping up their menus and manpower to get ready for the demand. Many establishments are expecting around 50% sales increase on the holiday, despite the road closures for the parade. In July, F&B operators saw a 20% to 30% increase compared to regular months thanks to parade previews.

Aside from Padang, people are expected to crowd Merlion Park, Esplanade Park, and the Marina Bay area to catch the fireworks and aerial displays.

Bistro Aseana, an eatery near the Merlion statue, is more than tripling its seating capacity from 40 to 150 to cater to more customers.

“It’s very important that we are part of the celebrations. Everyone here is in a celebratory mood, and hence we have to create diverse packages for them to enjoy the experience,” shared Eric Chan, the diner’s managing director.

Another restaurant, Brewerkz One Fullerton, already set a reservation system of two dining slots during the parade, and increased staffing by 30%

Authorities will set up barricades in key areas to block movements and ensure seamless crowd flow.
